Azure deployment economics

Azure OpenAI cost and PTU calculator

Compare source-linked token rates with a separate PTU capacity scenario. Keep region, context length, minimum allocation and reserved billing assumptions visible.

Azure OpenAI

Azure OpenAI cost calculator

Compare public Global Standard and Data Zone Standard PAYG records with PTU assumptions.

Effective Verified Source ↗ Public US-dollar Global Standard record. Agreement, region availability and currency can change the estimate.

Workload and token usage
Retry rate increases the number of billed attempts.
For models without a listed cache rate, these are billed at normal input price.
Extra billed attempts after failures or repairs.
Azure capacity comparison

PAYG uses the selected public rate record. PTU is a separate editable contract assumption; no public PTU price is inferred from the token record.

Enter your negotiated or portal-visible PTU/hour rate; zero means not modeled.
730 is a planning approximation for a 30.4-day month.

Region/contract assumption: public US-dollar Global Standard or Data Zone Standard list pricing only. Actual Azure region, reservation term, agreement, currency, quota and PTU contract terms can change the result.

Custom rate overrides
Enable this only when your contract or internal rate card differs from the selected public record.
Blank uses the record cache rate; if no cache rate is listed, normal input rate applies.
Assumptions

Rates are USD per million tokens unless a field says otherwise. This is a planning estimate, not a vendor quote. Records were verified 2026-11-02; region, contract, context-window, batch, tool and tax meters may differ.

Estimate, not a provider quote. Public list rates, regional terms, contract discounts, taxes and usage meters can change. Check the linked source and replace assumptions with your account terms before budgeting.

Pricing and method sources

Rate cards display their own verification and effective dates. Use the original provider source to confirm current billing details.

How this estimate works

Pay-as-you-go and provisioned throughput use different meters

PAYG estimates multiply billable input, cache and output tokens by the selected public rate. A PTU deployment instead incurs provisioned capacity charges by hour or reservation, whether or not your workload uses every allocated unit. The calculator presents these as separate scenarios rather than pretending that a token rate alone determines the cheaper option.

Global and Data Zone are not interchangeable

Public Azure prices vary by processing type and region. Select the matching Global or Data Zone rate where available. Regional deployment, contract pricing and other regions may differ. The PTU hourly example is exposed as an editable assumption; verify that the selected model and region actually support provisioned throughput in your Azure account.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Azure PTU estimate include reservations?

The tool can compare editable hourly and reservation prices, but you must supply the matching deployment’s current terms. A public rate for another model or region is not a valid substitute.

Are Azure prices identical to OpenAI direct API prices?

No. Azure pricing depends on model, deployment type, region, currency, agreement and meter. Use the Azure record shown for the intended deployment.

What does PTU break-even mean here?

It compares an entered provisioned monthly capacity cost with a token-based PAYG estimate. It does not guarantee equivalent throughput or service levels.

Can I enter negotiated prices?

Yes. Replace the public list rates and PTU price with values from your own account or agreement.
